I can't believe it broke!
I must first say that I love(d) my proto. I had one for 10 years that was stolen out pf my car but was recently given one for my birthday a year ago. I noticed the other day that the mouth piece stem was slightly askew and when I gave what I thought was just a little force to straighten it out, it broke off at the bowl! One of the best pipes avalible
I didn't buy mine from GC but, love it none the less because it is a self contained unit aside from needing a flame and it's excellent for travel. No need for screens(built in) or a pipe tool(part of the package) has a spot to put some herb (if you pack it full 4-6 bowls) has a lid so it's pocket friendly (also works as a wind guard) and has a gen...Read More

Awesome
This thing is awesome. It is super durable, has a stash spot, you can use the lid to stop the burn, and it is very effective at keeping ash and other nasties out of your mouth. Just be careful not to lose the poker, as that really is necessary to get the resin trap out. Oh and to those who say not to polish this, I do polish it and if you're the t...Read More

Everyone Should Own One. (Don't polish it.)
I've had mine for 19 years. You should see the patina. Don't ever polish one. They age magnificently. After hitting it, just a quick flip with your thumb and it is sealed and ready to be dropped quickly in a pocket, should anything come up. The parts can be a bit stiff on a new, but it'll break in. Except the bottom of the bowl. I had to gingerly ...Read More

OMG it's the coolest thing out there! You'll get some funny looks from people the first time you use it, but the extensive list of features make it a must have:
* swivel lid which serves a few purposes
- acts as a built-in windguard if kept partially closed
- can snuff out the flame if closed after your hit
- acts as a handle ...Read More

A classic that is impossible to improve
Absolutely beautiful. Visual pleasure... As well as a wonderful smoke. I plan to baby this due to the beauty that brass patina has to offer. It has not changed in 40+ yes because if something is not broken you should not fix it. I plan on being very careful as I doubt any part lost could be replaced without getting a whole new pipe. Treat it like ...Read More

Best I ever had
I've had one for a while now and it is the best hand pipe I ever owned, how ever it does have some drawbacks, like the pick is a little to easy to break and the swivel system is a little weak. But other then that its the greatest pipe I ever owned.

Lasts a lifetime
I bought my ProtoPipe in 1986. To this day, it is the only pipe I use. The only thing that's ever gone wrong is the rubber mouthpiece wore out/off (in the late 90's :-)=o~

Outstanding peice, special note to GC
Thanks grass city for putting up a diagram for all it's parts, I didn't know the bottom was a knockout.
I love every thing about this bowl now, as I have now solved my own little cleaning issue.Even if your dad lost the rubber mouthpeice back when it was his, it's still awesome. Mine is older than I am and I'm 21.

Got mine in 1978
I own the real original without the swivel cover. They come with a slightly shallower bowl. It has been with me all over the world and has never let me down. You just gotta be a clean freak with these. Put it away dirty for a few years and you'll understand.

Fantastic Protopipe
Personally I love a brass pipe and this one is AMAZING. super easy to use and all the accessories you need are part of the pipe. the bottom comes out so you can clean the smoke chamber. Get the original Protopipe not the fake

had one 15 years
I owned the same proto pipe for over 15 years. They are the best in the tackle box or in a backpack for camping..the best. You have to keep them clean though, fortunately it's not that hard just a bit messy. Doesn't get 5 stars because you wouldn't want to use it a lot unless you like cleaning it.

I've tried wood pipes, clay pipes, glass pipes, metal pipes and stone pipes, but I've never had anything better than the Proto Pipe Deluxe. This gives an incredibly smooth, even and cool smoke. It was designed in America in the early 60's and has been a popular choice all over the world ever since, due to it's compact size, smooth smoke and storage ability. It has a built in cleaning pick which also acts as a poker for the bowl. The design of the bowl eliminates the need for messy gauzes, it has a solid brass gauze built in, with a removable bowl that collects the oils and tars. We seiously recommend this one for all you old hippies out there!
